The Brief
CLAGS (The Center of LGBTQ Studies) was looking for a logo redesign, along with new branding guidelines and materials.
An important part of the redesign was to create a more modern look but not too different from existing designs so it would still be recognizable to members.
Their Vision Statement
CLAGS envisions queer studies and trans studies as praxis-driven and intersectional and strives for accessible, free, queer scholarship and programming that centers BIPOC.
Their Values Statement
CLAGS is committed to:
Highlighting, amplifying, and promoting the experiences and activism of LGBTQIA+ BIPOC communities
Supporting cutting edge queer knowledge production within and outside the academy, including non-traditional forms
Centering LGBTQIA+ communities through art, activism, and scholarship
Providing free accessible public facing programing
Holding space for queer studies in the largest metropolitan public university system in the United States
Holding space for, and recognition of, queer history
Operating with truth and honesty regarding our past in community, as an organization, and in historical movements
My breakdown of the client.
Brainstorming & Sketching
I gathered logos and branding of previous CLAGS logos and similar organizations to see concepts that agree with the vision going forward and ones that didn’t.
