The Brief

CLAGS (The Center of LGBTQ Studies) was looking for a logo redesign, along with new branding guidelines and materials.

An important part of the redesign was to create a more modern look but not too different from existing designs so it would still be recognizable to members.

Their Vision Statement

CLAGS envisions queer studies and trans studies as praxis-driven and intersectional and strives for accessible, free, queer scholarship and programming that centers BIPOC.

Their Values Statement

CLAGS is committed to:

  • Highlighting, amplifying, and promoting the experiences and activism of LGBTQIA+ BIPOC communities

  • Supporting cutting edge queer knowledge production within and outside the academy, including non-traditional forms

  • Centering LGBTQIA+ communities through art, activism, and scholarship

  • Providing free accessible public facing programing

  • Holding space for queer studies in the largest metropolitan public university system in the United States

  • Holding space for, and recognition of, queer history

  • Operating with truth and honesty regarding our past in community, as an organization, and in historical movements

My breakdown of the client.

Brainstorming & Sketching

I gathered logos and branding of previous CLAGS logos and similar organizations to see concepts that agree with the vision going forward and ones that didn’t.
